In place of the long-awaited `Special Category' status, sources say that Andhra Pradesh might have to be content with a special package ­according to  message that chief minister Chandrababu Naidu had received very clearly New Delhi on Tuesday.

 

The Centre had reportedly assured Naidu that AP will be getting more than the expected financial benefits due to the special roadmap for the overall development of residuary state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly directed Niti Aayog vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya for giving out a roadmap.

This would involve t all the assurances that was made to the state according to the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. PM Modi reportedly assured the AP CM that all the promises that were made in the Act will be honored and the financial package for new state capital will also be finalised soon.

 

The finance minister Arun Jaitley reportedly said that the `Special Category' status issue is actually in the Prime Minister's court and he would be taking a final call on this matter after the Niti Aayog submits the recommendations. Home Minister Rajnath assured Naidu that the Telangana government won’t be allowed to act unilaterally.
