Metro rail is touted to be a cure all for many of the traffic problems being faced by urban regions in India. In this regard, most cities in India have taken up expensive Metro rail projects that would be a big boost for ending traffic woes and provide a better public transport for rapidly growing cities.

In this regard, Hyderabad Metro Rail envisaged for three corridors spanning 72 km is currently in its construction phase. The project was expected to take off in 2006 and be ready by 2010. As of now although the authorities are maintaining a bold face, till 2017 its commencement of operations remain in doubt.

After bifurcation, naturally comparisons have become inevitable between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and in this regard, now Metro issues have come to the fore. It is already known that Delhi Metro is executing Vijayawada Metro and today it has issued tenders for the same.

The target has been fixed for two years and a strict time limit for operations to commence in 48 months. It is only for 26 km in first phase, but given the expertise of Metro Sridharan, many in AP feel that even if they are starting late, they may be the first one to start extensive operations rather than Telangana, in Hyderabad.
