Sai Baba is more popular as the Shirdi ka Sai Baba which means Sai Baba of Shirdi. He was born in 1835 and died in 1918. The word sai has many meanings in different languages. However, Sai Baba’s devotees called him by this name to mean a saint, fakir or a satguru. They gave him the name according to their own believes. Sai Baba is a kind of guru who has followers from both the Hindu and Muslim religions. Sai Baba always wanted his devotees to follow the path of a true satguru or murshid.



There is no any strict rule of worshiping Sai Baba. Anybody can worship him with peace and kindness in mind. The devotees can pray as they please with lamp, incense sticks and sweets or fruits. Lighting up dhoop on Thursday and Friday evenings may please Sai Baba. Sai Baba always preached for the self-realization. He taught his devotees to walk on the path of honesty, peace and forgiveness. Thus, one can worship him to obtain the peace of mind. It is believed that people, who can worship him regularly, can obtain prosperity and some other virtues in life.

The Sai Baba temple in Shirdi observed various occasions that are considered pious in Hinduism. Rama Navami is considered as the Birth date Of Sai Baba. This tithi is celebrated as the Sai Baba’s Jayanti. Apart from that the devotees of Sai Baba also observed Guru Purnima and Sai Baba’s Mahasmadhi day.
