Colors play a very important role in the religion and culture has a very deep significance and transcending purely decorative values. The Hindu artistes use color on the deities and their dresses signifying their qualities. Some of the main colors sued in religious ceremonies are red, yellow, green from leaves, white from wheat flour etc.


In Hindu religion red is of utmost significance and the color most frequently used for auspicious occasions like marriages, birth of a child, festivals etc. next comes saffron which represents fire and as impurities are burnt by fire and this color symbolizes purity. It also represents religious abstinence. Next green color symbolizes peace and happiness and it stabilizes mind.


Yellow color symbolizes happiness, peace, meditation, competence and mental development. Lord Krishna and Ganesha wear yellow dresses. White represents purity, cleanliness, peace and knowledge and Goddess Saraswati is shown wearing white dress.

The creator has given maximum blue to nature and Lord Rama and Krishna spent their life protecting humanity and destroying evil and hence they are colored blue.
