Lord Shani refers to planet Saturn and is a Sanskrit word. Shani is also one of the auspicious Navagraha per the Hindu Astrology. Lord Shani is also the male deity who is a handsome looking man sitting on a vulture, Buffalo or a crow. He is Lord Sun's son. It is further believed that having overcome his pain, Lord Shani otherwise much feared because of his anger had become benevolent towards his devotee.
Donating sesame seed oil or mustard oil is regarded as one of the best remedies to impress Lord Shani. Of course, the best day to do so is on Saturday, as it is the ruling day of the planet Saturn. You can donate money or clothes, especially on a Saturday. You can also give a piece of black cloth to the poor and needy as black is the beloved color of Lord Shani. Black is the color of Lord Shani, therefore, wearing black or dark blue on a Saturday is considered good. Apart from it all, if under Lord Shani’s scrutiny one should avoid buying leather or black-colored items on a Saturday at all costs.
