Aadi festival is celebrated for the birth of the Tamil month of Aadi (July - August). This festival is special for various Amman’s (Durga). Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays of this month are considered very auspicious. A lot of festivals are celebrated in the month of Aadi. This Tamil month marks the beginning of all festivals during the festival season. Tamil month Aadi is considered as an auspicious month. All Fridays in this month especially the 1st and 3rd are very auspicious.

Tamil Month Aadi, marks the beginning of monsoon in Tamilnadu. During this month, water levels in the rivers increases due to monsoon. To show our gratitude to the Nature and to Thank Mother Cauvery River, we celebrate Aadiperukku. Adiperukku is a unique south Indian and especially a Tamil state festival celebrated on the 18th day of the Tamil month of Aadi.

Aadi Perukku falls on 2nd or 3rd of August every year and this year it falls on 3rd August 2014 on Sunday. Hence "Padinettam perukku" Padinettu signifies eighteen, and Perukku denotes rising. This festival is observed predominately by women in Tamilnadu. Hindu festival of Aadi Puram is celebrated in all Hindu temples in southern india in the month called Aadi or Ashadha. People therefore worship her in order to secure happiness not only for themselves but also for their loved ones.
