Karwa Chauth is a traditional festival observed by married women across most states of northern states, its a tradition to worship goddess Parvathi, the wife of Lord shiva whom Hindus consider as Akhand Soubhagyavathi.

     Karwa Chauth falls this Thursday, married women across all northern states of india follows the ritual religiously, they observe nirjala fast which means one can’t even drink from sunrise to moonrise, the fast is observed for well being and for health prospects of the husband. Apart from observing vrat, women wear new clothes and apply Henna, they gather in numbers to chant Karwa Chauth vrat stories and sings devotional songs.

     Sargi is traditional food prepared by mother in laws for their daughters in laws to be consumed before sunrise on Karwa Chauth festival day, later in the evening after moonrise the women breaks their vrats by taking glimpse of moon and husband through a sieve or it is called Channi, husbands offer sweet or fruit to their wife, they also offer gifts as a act of love and affection towards the wife.

    Goddess parvathi is worshiped as she considered as Akhand Soubhagyavathi  as per Hindu mythology, many Hindi films have shown the scenes and songs relating to Karwa Chauth.
