Reportedly former indian captain sunil gavaskar said that a India-Pakistan bilateral series seems unlikely now, despite Shoaib Akhtar's recent proposal for one. sunil gavaskar said that there are more chances of snowfall in Lahore than a bilateral series between arch-rivals india and pakistan in near future. Gavaskar said this while speaking to former pakistan batsman Rameez raja on his youtube channel.Sunil Gavaskar's comments came after shoaib akhtar proposed a 3-match ODI series between india and pakistan for raising funds for Covid-19 relief.

Gavaskar said "There are more chances of snowfall in Lahore than bilateral series between india and Pakistan". Both teams will keep on meeting in World Cups and ICC tournaments, but a series between them seem unlikely right now." Earlier, Gavaskar's teammate kapil dev had slammed Shoaib Akhtar's idea of a made-for-television three-match ODI series between india and pakistan to raise funds for the Covid-19 pandemic, saying "India doesn't need the money" and it is not worth risking lives for a cricket match. Notably, shoaib akhtar said the viewership for the proposed ODI series will be massive and fans from both the countries will be happy to see a rare bilateral assignment between the two teams.

Akhtar even proposed that the funds can be divided between the india and Pakistani governments in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic has brought normal lives to a grinding halt across the globe. Among other things, the sporting calendar has been massively affected by the novel coronavirus outbreak. The cricket calendar has been thrown into disarray as well.
