The Maracana Stadium in Rio is all lit up and is housing an ocean of audience and many folds that are awake since 4.30am in India, irrespective of it being a weekend, to watch the Rio Olympics Opening Ceremony.
The Indian Contingent consists of 119 members that include the highest numbers in badminton and shooting. Moment of pride is when shooter Abhinav Bindra led India out with the tricolor in hand.
Finally the host contingent was led out and a spectacular firework was in display. Thomas, the president of International Olympics delivered a welcome note making a special mention of the refugee team. He said, "In the spirit of Olympic solidarity and with greatest respect welcome the refugee Olympic team."
Following it the Olympic Laurel, first of the kind, was awarded to the Track and Field Athlete and philanthropist Kip Keino for his contribution to education, culture and peace through sports.
