P V Sindhu has etched her name in history by beating Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in straight games to ensure India of at least a silver medal in Rio Olympics. Sakshi Malik opened the gates for the medal rally by bagging a bronze in women wrestling a day earlier.

 

P V Sindhu, the two-time bronze medalist at World Championship notched up a sensational victory over the All England Champion from Japan in a heart raising semi-finals that lased for 49 minutes with 21-19 21-10.

 


Sindhu pushed the Japanese to the corners by playing half smashes and drops. Okuhara found the net while trying to play the cross court drops from the baseline.

 

Sindhu came out strong after the change of sides and reeled off 11 straight points lead. She used her brilliant backhand flick and drops to take the lead against her Japanese counterpart.
