Rahul Johri, the CEO, BCCI confirmed that Afghanistan will play their inaugural test match against India in 2018, and dates and schedules will be announced soon. Since acquiring full member status, Ireland and Afghanistan were looking for opponents to begin their test journey, and Ireland will make its test debut against Pakistan in May 2018.

Thigh Zimbabwe was scheduled to play Afghanistan initially, their board decided that they didn't want to overload their players and that they need to train for Worldcup qualifiers in March. In October, Shafiqullah Stanikzai the ACB head discussed with Johri and requested for playing a test series against Afghans and BCCI has agreed now.


BCCI and ACB boards will meet in a week to decide on schedule and venues at Dubai, and ad India will be mostly touring overseas in 2018, Afghan series will be scheduled late 2018 after the tour of Australia. Meanwhile, Shafiqullah expressed happiness that it will be a historic match and thanked BCCI for accepting the proposal to play tests against Afghanistan.
