As Indian bowlers spun a web around Sri Lankan batsmen who fell like a pack of cards after batting first, with Upul Tharanga alone showing some grit with a composed 95 that was initially threatening to turn the match in Sri Lanka's favor.

However, with Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav claiming three wickets each and none except Samarawickrama(42) giving him company, Sri Lanka got restricted to 215 all out in 44.5 overs. Batting second, India got off to a dangerous start, with last match hero, hitman Rohit Sharma getting back to Pavillion sooner, and Shreyas Iyer arriving earlier than expected.

However Shreyas and Shikhar Dhawan had other plans, as Dhawan compensated for his previous failures, and scored a settled, much-needed ton, and with his partnership with the belligerent Shreyas (65), took India to victory, after the momentum was initially gained by Lankans.

India won the match scoring 219 in the 32nd over itself, with 8 wickets and 107 balls left.  With this second consecutive victory guided by Dhawan's 12th ODI century, (after losing the first in the series), India has won the ODI series, making it the eighth consecutive ODI series victory for team India.
