Though England have already lost the prestigious Ashes tournament again, they are looking to achieve some glory in the 4th, boxing day test at Melbourne, by salvaging some pride with at least a consolation win in the series. While Australia batted first winning early momentum, English bowlers did a quite decent job compared to previous tests.

Powered by  David Warner's stunning century (103) and captain Steve Smith(76) and Marsh (61)'s timely half centuries, Australia steered past the 300 mark and ended their Innings with a respectable 327 in 119 overs, Broad claiming 4 wickets and Anderson claiming 3 wickets, besides woakes claiming 2 wickets.

The English batsmen began cautiously, after Stoneman and Vince departed quickly, as Alistair Cook and Joe  Root  began the resurrection act, and picked the right balls while carefully defending the best deliveries and eventually the day 2 ended with cook on a calm and composed 104(166)* and Root on 49(105)*, with England at 192/2 and trailing behind Australia by 135 runs at stumps. Day 4 ends with Australia trailing behind and with rain in contention, the match is expected to end in a draw.
