The Final T20 of the Trans Tasman Tri-series was held in Auckland, and it began with New Zealand winning the toss and opting to bat against Australia. However, they were restricted to 150, after initially being threatened by Colin Munro and Martin Guptill, who were in thundering form, but they didn't last long enough to rescue the black caps.

As the Kiwis reached a paltry 150/9 in 20 overs, the Aussie openers David Warner and Darcy began slowly and steadily in the run chase, as the Kiwi bowlers bowled a tight line. However, Darcy struck form with the end of the powerplay, smashing 3 huge sixes, propelling Aussies to a decent 55/0 in just 6 overs.

However, as heavy rainfall hampered the play, Darcy completed his second T20 fifty off 29 balls, after play resumed, but soon he was dismissed off the same over bowled by Munro. With Warner's dismissal for 25, Aussies were reeling at 83/2 off 10 overs, and they faced an immediate blow, with Ashton Agar thumped by Santner. However, Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell made sure they took home Australia safe, as they kept the momentum taking Aussies to 121/3 in 14.4 overs, and Aussies were declared winners, by 19 runs by D/L Method, and ultimately clinching the series.
