While there had been numerous rumors around the selection of the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders IPL franchise, and with numerous senior players in contention to become the skipper, KKR CEO Venky Mysore has made an announcement that wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik will lead the team in the 2018 edition of IPL.

As he announced the skipper of KKR on Star Sports, Venky had added that the prime reason behind the selection of Dinesh Karthik was that the team needed a long-term change, and that required someone who had the experience and ability to fill Gautham Gambhir's shoes. While Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa were other top contenders, Robin has been announced as the deputy captain.

It must be noted that Dinesh Karthik was acquired by KKR for a whopping 7.4 crores in the IPL bidding, and speaking on his appointment as the skipper, Dinesh said that KKR has been one of the most consistent and top teams of the tournament in the past 10 years, and he'd wish to continue carrying forward the legacy, adding that he was excited to work as a team under coach Jacques Kallis, and would like to take on from where Gambhir left.

KKR also boasts of a powerful bowling lineup, including the deadly Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc, and the latest under 19 sensations Kamlesh Nagarkoti and the only probable issue can be the batting lineup that lacks depth.
