The 17th match of the Vivo IPL 2018, between Chennai super kings and Rajasthan Royals, began with the latter winning the toss and sending in the super kings to bat first. Though the team had lost opener Rayudu early, another opener Shane Watson and Suresh Raina joined forces to forge a partnership.
While Raina was dismissed after scoring 46(29), skipper MS Dhoni and Billings were dismissed cheaply, as Watson was thundering at the other end. With Watson being joined by Dwayne Bravo, the duo took CSK to a formidable 204/5, with Watson scoring a powerful 106(57b, 9x4,6x6). Shreyas Gopal had scalped 3 wickets.
Entered Rajasthan Royals for the second innings, and they lost skipper Rahane, Klassen and Sanju Samson quite early, as Stokes tried to revive the Innings with his 45, though he never got a company at the other end to keep the chase on, and with Thakur, Chahar, Dwayne Bravo and Karn Sharma picking two wickets apiece, royals were bundled for 140, as CSK won the match by 64 runs with 9 balls to spare. Shane Watson was adjudged player of the match for his massive ton.
