The 37th match of the Vivo IPL 2018, between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders, began with the Mumbai Indians batting first. Mumbai Indians had the best opening of the season so far, as both their openers started scoring runs at their will, smashing boundaries and sixes, as Suryakumar Yadav scored 59(39b,7x4,2x6), and Lewis scored  43(28b,5x4,2x6) before Russell claimed both their wickets.

Skipper Rohit Sharma departed early, and Hardik Pandya launched an onslaught, as he smashed several boundaries, in his 35(20), and with minimal contributions by tailenders, took Mumbai Indians to a decent 181/4 in 20 overs, with Andre Russell claiming 2/12. Kolkata Knight Riders batting began on a disastrous note, as McClenaghan and Hardik Pandya removed openers, Lynn and Shubhman Gill, early.

However, Robin Uthappa and Nitish Rana forged a stand, scoring runs at a brisk pace, as Uthappa went on to score a composed knock of 54(35b,6x4,3x6), while Rana departed scoring 31(27). It was now left with the KKR Skipper Dinesh Karthik to help the team chase the target, however, his knock of 36(26)* wasn't sufficient enough to help KKR to the victory line. Hardik Pandya had claimed 2/19, and  Mumbai Indians won the match by 13 runs, as KKR scored 168/6.
