The first test of India vs West Indies tour began with India winning toss and batting first. Opener KL Rahul departed for a duck, but  Prithwi Shaw and Cheteshwar Pujara forged a stand and denied the Windies an opportunity to gain momentum.



Both the batsmen scored at will, tormenting Windies bowlers picking the bad deliveries and hitting boundaries. Pujara Went on to score 86(130) before being dismissed by Lewis and entered Skipper Virat Kohli who again steadied with a good partnership with Shaw who was Rock solid.



Soon after, Prithwi Shaw departed after scoring a blitzkrieg ton, scoring 134(154) dismissed by Bishoo, and following him entered Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane scored a patient 41(92) before being dismissed. India ended day 1, with skipper Kohli unbeaten on 72(137)* and Rishabh pant on 17(21), with India at 364/4 at stumps.
