The final day of the first test of India's tour of Australia began with Australia resuming on 104/4, with Shaun Marsh and Head on the crease, and Ishant Sharma quickly removed Head (14), with Aussies on 115/5. Tim Paine joined hands with Marsh and they forged a partnership for a while.

Soon, Marsh was dismissed by Bumrah after scoring a composed knock of 60(166), and before any kind of resurrection act, Bumrah struck again, removing the other settled batsman Paine for 41(73), as Aussies were left struggling at 187/7, with Cummins and Starc on crease, delaying an Indian victory.

Starc and Cummins began frustrating the Indian bowlers who couldn't rattle the Aussie tail, as they stood solidly trying to establish a stand. Shami's timely strike to dismiss Starc for 28(44) once again brought back India into the game, after a frustrating 41 run partnership.

Cummins and Lyon further defended for a while to frustrate Indian bowlers, and finally, Bumrah dismissed Cummins for 28(121), and Lyon accompanied by Hazlewood was the last wall of defense between India and a victory. With Lyon 38(47)* unbeaten and delaying an Indian win, Hazlewood was finally out got for 13(43), as Aussies were all out for 292, and India won the first test by 31 runs. Bumrah ended with 3/68, Shami with 3/65 and Ashwin with 3/92.
