For the first time in last 82 years of Indian cricket history, the Indian cricket team has got both its openers being newcomers to tests. Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari both opened for India for the first time in the third test between India and Australia, the Boxing Day test held at Melbourne.

       


As previous opening duo Murali Vijay and KL Rahul did not play well, they were both replaced in this test with Hanuma Vihari and Mayank Agarwal. Earlier in the second test, Hanuma Vihari jsf played as a number six batsman. This became the first match with Vihari and Mayank as openers for India.

This was Mayank's first test match and prior to this, India got both openers as first timers in 1932. And later it happened in 1936 when Vijay merchant and Thatharam Hindlekar opened for India together for first time. This is also the first time in 71 years that an Indian opener had debuted, and the previous was Ameer Elahi in 1947.
