The second ODI of  India's tour of New Zealand began with India batting first after winning the toss. Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma began strongly and forged a good opening stand of 154 before Dhawan was out for 66(67), and Rohit soon followed suit scoring 87(96).



While Skipper Kohli started getting the rhythm and scored 43(45), Boult returned to remove him. Entered the cool Dhoni who partnered with Rayudu and the duo maintained the momentum as Rayudu scored 47(49), while Dhoni stayed unbeaten on 48(33)*, as India posted a massive 324/4. New Zealand innings began on a bad note with Chahal and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar removing openers Munro and Guptill.




Taylor(22) and skipper Kane Williamson(20) settled but got out before converting their knocks into bigger ones. Latham scored 34, before Chahal removed him, while Bracewell alone waged a lone battle as wickets fell at the other end, and he ended at 57(46), with New Zealand ultimately scoring 234 and losing by 90 runs. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the Indian bowlers with an impressive 4/45.
