The third ODI of India's tour of New Zealand began with New Zealand batting first and their innings began on a disastrous note after Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Shami removed openers Guptill and Munro, and soon after, Skipper Kane Williamson followed after a good start of 28(48).

Despite wickets, Taylor and Latham forged a stand, as they scored runs at will, and with caution as Taylor's 93(106) and Latham's 51(64) were the only positives in kiwi batting as the rest fell like a pack of cards and kiwis ended at 243, with Shami picking 3/41.

Though opener Dhawan fell early for 28(27), Rohit Sharma and skipper Kohli posted belligerent half-centuries as Rohit 62(77) and Kohli 60(74) eased the pressure off India, as Rayudu 40(42)* and Dinesh Karthik 38(38)* finished the proceedings with the finishing cameos taking India to 245/3, a victory by 7 wickets, as India won the series 3-0.
