In the 5th match of IPL 2019, Chennai Super Kings faced Delhi Capitals. Both the teams faced a win in their first encounter and were ready for their next. Shreyas Iyer who won the toss opted to bat on a slow track. Delhi Capitals had a slow start with Dhawan just moving at a steady strike rate of a little over than 100.

Rishabh Pant gave the momentum and lifted the spirits. But he fell in the 15th over and that shattered the hopes. At one time Delhi Capitals looked like getting 170 but CSK clawed their way back in the last 5 overs. Imran Tahir bagged the Purple cap and Rishabh Pant got his Orange cap.

CSK was given 148 to win in order to continue their winning juggernaut. Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu opened their innings. CSK cruised to 104 runs in 10.4 overs, but Dhoni's TUK-TUK innings took the game till last over and finally a nervous victory was sealed.
