As per report indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on sunday said a low pressure has formed over the arabian sea and it is very likely to further intensify into a cyclonic storm and reach maharashtra and gujarat coasts by june 3. "A low-pressure area has formed over southeast and adjoining east-central arabian sea and lakshadweep area with associated cyclonic circulation extending up to mid-troposphericlevels," the regional Meteorological Centre, mumbai, said in a message.

 

Meanwhile the met department said the low-pressure area might turn into a depression and then into a cyclonic storm, which is "very likely to move nearly northwards and reach north maharashtra and gujarat coasts by june 3". "It is very likely to concentrate into a depression over east-central and adjoining southeast arabian sea during the next 24 hours," it said. In view of the developing cyclone situation over the arabian sea, six teams of the No 5 battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), pune, are being deployed in Maharashtra.

 

Two teams will be deployed in Palghar district, and one each in thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts. Apart this, three teams of the NDRF are already on standby in Mumbai. The IMD also said that light to moderate rainfall is likely at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over lakshadweep area, kerala and coastal karnataka on june 1. The weather department also predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and extremely heavy falls at isolated places over north Konkan and north Madhya maharashtra on june 3 and june 4.
