Scientists for long tried to findout the secrets behind the Red Planet Mars. According to the latest NASA's Curiosity rover found an unexpected mineral in a rock sample on Mars.

This proved that the Red Planet earlier had explosive volcanoes during its evolution. Curiosity,The Mars Science Laboratory rover, since August 2012 has been exploring sedimentary rocks with in the Gale Crater.

In July 2015, on Sol 1060 (the number of Martian days since landing), the rover collected powder drilled from rock at a location named “Buckskin.”

Scientists after analysing the data from an X-ray diffraction instrument on the rover that identifies minerals detected significant amounts of Tridymite, a silica mineral. Tridymite is associated with silicic volcanism, and according to researchers till now thought was not present on Mars.

Scientists may be forced to rethink on volcanic history with the discovery of Tridymite.
