Savithri has been one of the most popular and earliest superstars of the south film industry and had gained huge fame and reputation with her extraordinary acting performances. Bringing alive her life and times on screen is a daunting task and here comes young Maker Nag Ashwin with the biopic of the legendary actress Savithri, in today's release Mahanati. Here's team AP Herald's exclusive first on net Mahanati review.

The movie begins with Madhuravani (Samantha) and Vijay Antony (Vijay federal) working for Prajavani to cover the life story of actress Savithri, and the duo set out to collect facts on her. Mahanati then covers  Savithri's childhood, her entry to films, the popular films she starred, her love and marriage with Gemini Ganesan, her rise to superstardom, fame and money impacting lifestyle and the alcoholic habit, and ultimately impacting her family life and the conflicts with Gemini, and the fall of the icon, through the eyes of Madhuravani.

Keerthy Suresh lives the role of Savithri as Mahanati will be an identity card for her from now on. She sets a benchmark with her impressive acting and be it the happiness, sorrow or the rise to stardom or falling phase with alcohol, Keerthy excels and brings Savithri alive on screen.

Dulquer Salmaan as Gemini Ganesan does his part to perfection and makes a fine debut. Samantha has got her own scope to portray emotions and the talented actress excels. The rest of the huge cast including Vijay Deverakonda, Shalini Pandey, Prakashraj, Avasarala Srinivas, Mohan Babu, Malavika Nair are perfectly cast and have performed with a deep understanding of their characters.

With a soothing background score which is a highlight of Mahanati, Mickey J Meyer also impresses with his songs like Sada Nannu, Mooga Manasulu and takes us to the era of Savithri itself. Dani Sanchez Lopez's cinematography is top notch as he brings alive the period of Savithri beautifully capturing the amazing artworks and sets recreating the 60s, and gives life to the imagination of Nag Ashwin.

Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao's editing makes sure that the biopic doesn't miss any of the important elements in the life of Savithri while also ensuring the movie never bores. After impressing the audience with the Coming of age flick Yevade Subramanyam 3 years back, it was a surprise decision by Nag Ashwin to opt for a biopic. And that being the biopic of someone of the stature of Savithri meant it was always a huge responsibility for him, and nag Ashwin comes out with flying colors, with his impressive making.

The director must be applauded for inculcating all the key incidents in the life of the legend without belittling or fakely glorifying anyone and giving this generation a perfect presentation of the Life and times of the actress.

He has extracted extraordinary performance from Keerthy Suresh who has totally transformed into a Mahanati, while also being supported well by Dulquer Salmaan, and the impressive supporting cast including Prakashraj, Krish, Mohan Babu, Shalini Pandey, Bhanupriya, and everyone.

With Mickey J Meyer giving his best to make music as authentic and appealing as possible and Dani Sanchez Lopez's cinematography capturing every moment beautifully, they become assets to Mahanati.

All said, Mahanati is a unique movie watching experience that is a must watch for the generation to get to know one of the greatest talents that the industry ever produced.
