Madurai sources stated that members of the expert committee who inspected the temple said the Veeravasantharayar Mandapam inside the Meenakshi Amman temple here was extensively damaged in the recent fire accident. Madurai sources have reported that popular 15th century Veeravasantharayar mandapam in Meenakshi Amman temple suffered extensive damage following the big fire that broke out there on Friday night. The blaze also gutted 42 shops. N. Subramanian, district fire officer (in-charge) from Fire Safety and Rescue Service, Madurai stated that “The fire had damaged the stone pillars and the top stone structure of the mandapam has also fallen down due to heat in a few places".
Madurai sources have stated that a major fire broke out inside the premises of famous Meenakshi temple here in which at least 40 shops were gutted. Police said however no one was injured.
