Gattu (Rajkummar Rao) is an average boy Who is below average in his academics and is bit timid when standing with his parents with no future prospects to boast up in his life. But one thing sure for his fondness is the neighbor girl Binny (Shruthi Hassan). Meanwhile Gattu is considered as brother to Binny's family during a crisis. See the movie in the big screen about this love story which is endearing.
Ajay Pannalal has made the direction for Behen Hogi Teri. The writing shows potential, to be honest. Moments like a romantic track playing over a funeral and a drunken rant about the Rahuls and Rajs of Bollywood give you hope. Had the writers taken a dig at patriarchy and given the female characters some spunk, this would have been hilarious. Rajkummar Rao and Shruthi Hassan's chemistry had worked superbly. Her costume in the movie is designed aptly for her, which suits Shruthi Hassan wonderfully.
Other pulses are a clever title, good production design and costumes, some finely edited scenes and yet another earnest performance by Rajkummar Rao. But the introduction of subplots such as the daily ‘jagran’ where Gattu dresses as Shiv, or Gattu’s father’s obsession with becoming president of the neighbourhood and the vengeance seeking father and uncle are diversions that make you restless.
The only reason to smile at the movie is Rajkummar Rao. The movie is packed with performers of various calibers, but Rao is the only reason to even attempt this is better than everyone and their brother. In fact the pitching of the performances is the second issue with the narrative. After interval, much of the action becomes about this latter plot. Ranjeet and Gulshan Grover appear as local thugs who respond to inter-caste romances with honour killings.
