Nandu[NTR] is a happy go brainy college lad, Fall-In-Love with Akarsha[Samantha] at first sight. Nandu uses his naughtyness, intelligence, pull all strings to make Akarsha accept his love. Love couple Nandu & Akarsha make a trip to native for Akarsha's sister marriage, Where her father & Industrialist[Mukhesh Rushi] gets killed.
Special investigation officer[Rao Ramesh] take-up the murder case... In a twist finds out Nandu aka Ramu as murderer. Ramu manages to slip investigation officer and plan to kill up-coming politician and son[Ravi Shankar] of Central Minister [Kota Srinivasa Rao].
Who is Ramu? What does he got to do with Akarsha's Father? Why Ramu should morph himself as Nandu? How does this whole episode relates to Central Ministers family? Finally does Akarsha agree to pair with her father murderer? Are to be seen on silver screen.
Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao[NTR] is the name of masses, there may not be any other hero who have gotten such a huge mass appeal as NTR was able to secure. Ramayya Vasthavayya let you witness his Gracefull dance moments, Powerful dialogues, Ease of acting yet again one more time.
With Cute & Handsome looks as College guy, Lover Boy, Witty comedy sequences... NTR has also exhibited his ability to entertain Class audience as well. As Easy going naughty boy, Young man with social sense, Lover boy NTR has done justice to the role given.
Samantha looked alright as lead-actress next to NTR. Her performance in naughty scenes as well as in emotional sequences is alright. In Ramayya Vasthavayya Sams exposed herself a lot in the couple of duet songs.
Its typical role for Shruti Haasan and she did alright in the charecter - but could not match-up to the grace... Screen presence of Young Tiger,You wouldn't stop imagining another actress such as Kajal or so in that role. New voice over to Shruti doesn't suite well.
Though it is brief... Ravi Shankar is okay in his baddie character. Harish provided some good oneliners to Ravi Shankar’s character. Mukesh Rishi did another usual role of serious villain. His character much needed make over. Tanikella Bharini is good as father of Shruti Haasan. Nothing much to say about rest of the characters.
Story of Ramayya Vasthavayya is in very old format. A happy go lucky trying to take revenge on the goons who killed his love. We've seen and heard this story several times, haven't we!! And yet Ramayya Vasthavayya manages to impress momentarily, but where it fails is in engaging on the whole due to its extended screenplay, which clocks almost three hours. Screenplay in the film is very predictable.
Story started to be youthful one - Morphed itself into family entertainer - Takes turn as Old-Revenge story and eventually ends with social message... OMG: Too many turns and shades forcibly injected into one movie. Dialogues in the film are mediocre. Few dialogues leave their mark as. Jeetham thesukunnevadu Jeevitham em kapaduthadu, Manishini kshaminche vadu devudu mathrame... Nenu devudini kadhu kshaminchadam raadhu..etc.
Music by S.S. Thaman is alright for songs.. Some of the tunes sounds redundant to other Telugu & Hindi songs though. Thaman BG Score for Ramayya Vasthavayya could have been lot better... especially using the same tune for more than half dozen times with Samantha, Another tune with Sruthi Hassan repeatedly test your patience. However BG score used while having Villain in scene is brilliant.
Cinematography by Chota.K.Naidu is top-notch in Ramyya Vasthavayya as he successfully translates the beauty of locations onto the big screen. Also, Chota was offered awesome art work support, which is worth applauding. Fights in the film are alright... especially few fights with serious action yet combined with witty comedy is good to see on screen. Visual Effects[CG] works in the film are dull. Production values by Sri venkateshwara Creations are good.
Direction by Harish Shankar is disappointing. Harish is one director who can brilliantly mix comedy with mass elements... Gabbarsingh, Mirapakai are true examples, When NTR was introduced with witty comedy expressions - combined with muscular fights and punch dialogues.. Everyone was surprised a bit because it is first of its time for NTR to try something like so. As the scenes proceed in the first-half crowd started enjoying the whole new treatment, but suddenly Harish changed his route towards interval bang and since then he lost complete control on the film and yet no time it would be seen as Harish Shankar film... He couldn't capitalize on his true strengths and also support offered by Young Tiger
If you are so eagerly waiting to see Ramayya Vasthavayya, don't worry. You've already seen this movie presented elsewhere just with different leads in the movies like Bunny, Rachcha, Aadhi & Samba. Most of the times... You already know what every scene means and what's going to come next. So when the music tells you what to feel, it is just Harish Shankar condescending to the viewers.
The characters feel only a little bit of everything. They are never able to exceed feeling and touch of emotion. Even after entire movie completion... You will be puzzled about multiple questions such as Why the sequences between NTR-Sams need to be so heart touching especially when Nandu charecter knows what to come? Why the blocks between Ammulu-Ram are so artificial when this is so real?It would also be disappointing to see not much role to play for rest of the charecters and it is only NTR trying to shoulder movie but the story plot do not let him do so.
Be it gang of friends, family members, Villains... none of them were able to live upto NTR stature, Not because they do not but the charecterization doesn't have scope. The crew is at it like routine. The film's biggest letdown is its 1990's story & dragged narration that never wants to end. And when it is finally about reach its end... we were tortured with an additional song. The only hope is Little entertainment, Few family elements in the first-half, and NTR overall. Ramayya Vasthavayya is not so easy to sit through until and unless you are a big time movie buff or fan of Nandamuri clain.
