Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, who has been tried for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the 2002 hit-and-run case, today, appeared in the Mumbai Sessions Court for the first time to record his statement under Section 313 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The actor was recorded saying that he was not driving the Toyota Land Cruiser at the time of the accident on September 28th and it was his driver Ashok Singh who was behind the wheels. He also denied the fact that he was drunk when the accident took place. The actor also told that court that his driver had gone to the police after the incident; however, the cops did not record his statement.

Disagreeing on the eyewitness statements that said he was seen coming out of the driver's seat, Salman told the court that his left door was jammed so he could not open it. When asked clarification about the statement of the parking lot attendant who said that he handed over the car to the actor, Salman said, "I don't remember."

Salman however agreed that he was at a bar with his brother Sohail Khan before the accident, but he never ordered for any cocktails. He also denied that he ran away from the accident. Dressed in a white shirt and blue denim jeans, Salman reached the court at 11 am and was accompanied by his sisters Alvira and Arpita and personal bodyguard. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
