Union Government has decided to extend existing Gannavaram Airport which is nearest to new capital of Andhra Pradesh. Government seeks to increase the standards of Gannavaram Airport. Nearly 500 acres of land require for the extension of Gannavaram Airport. In first phase, Government issued notification to procure 165 acres of land. Lands of four villages comes under Gannavaram Mandal are ready for airport extension. Farmers from four villages have discussed with Krishna District Collector for compensation in giving up their lands. They are willing to give the lands if Government ready to satisfy their demands. Gannavaram MLA Vamsi and other Farmer Unions also participated in the discussions. They demand the compensation as per the market value for their lands. In second option, farmers seek the 50 to 100 acres of land near Tullur as compensation for giving their land to Gannavaram Airport. Dawajigudem Colony people demand rehabilitation with all provisions to live in. Collector has assured to take up the issue to state government. It’s interesting that Gannavaram farmers want Tullur lands for compensation.
