Koodankulam Nuclear Power plant was shut down once again as there was a problem with turbine. On January 30th the unit restarted its power generation after seven months of shutdown. This will take at least three more days to rectify. The reactor will restart after this problem will end.

Site Director S.Sundar said, "A minor steam leak in turbine building is being attended to. The unit had to be shut down at 10.35pm and turbine has been taken out for service. Unit 1 has a Maximum capacity of 1000 MW and it has not reached its full capacity before it was shut down.

Unit touched 750MW by Thursday and we hope to get the full capacity after solving the problem in turbine building. If power from unit 1 is consistently available, then the state power utility Tangedco can stop private power purchase or stop some of its own thermal units.

Even though Unit 1 started its process on December 2014, so far it worked only four months. This is the lowest utilized unit." Udayakumar who protested against shutdown of Koodankulam said, "The real problems are not said to people. Every time it is being shut down, they never reveal the truth behind."
