The Justice Naushad Ali of the AP State consumer disputes redressal commission has ordered the Greater Vishakhapatnam Municipal Corporation to immediately pay a compensation of 13.33 Lakhs to the kith and kin of the man who has died because an electric pole has come crashing down to him.
The judge who was dealing the case which was filed by the deceased’s spouse as an electric pole has fallen on him when he was passing the Kancharapalem flyover. The spouse of the deceased along with his son and daughter has asked for a compensation of 45 Lakhs.
They made the eastern power distribution company, the GVMC and a local electric contractor has entrusted with the maintenance of the electric poles. The judge has sanctioned an amount of 13.33 crores plus 9% rate of interest from the date of complaint.
The electric poles were maintained by GVMC and EPDCL has to give the power supply. If any contractor fails to do the maintenance, then GVMV has to take action against them. The judge has taken the income of the deceased into consideration for making the calculations for the compensation.
