The study has ranked All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, and Christian Medical College, Vellore, as top three in terms of medical research output, with 11,377, 8,145 and 3,742 publications respectively.


Dr D Sree Bhushan Raju the former president of Nims faculty association and an alumnus of AIIMS has stated that it is true that we are trailing AIIMS, PGI Chandigarh and CMC Vellore by a wide margin and it does not mean that we are incapable, if every department is provided with a research laboratory like in AIIMS, we can produce more quality medical research work.


Dr Mazher Ali the senior resident of department of endocrinology, Care Hospitals, said that Indian doctors in general, in private and government hospitals, have no time to carry out research and they have a heavy patient load to tackle every day and rarely have facilities for keeping electronic database of medical records, leaving us no time to carry out research activities.


The research output from Indian medical institutions between 2005 and 2014' and carried by Samrat Ray, Ishan Shah and Samiran Nundy has also said that 25 of 37 medical institutions in Telangana had zero research publications.
