Andhra Pradesh has been witnessing more or less Chandranna mania
of sorts. This is being seen as an attempt to project the CM as if he
is messiah of the state. AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu is fully
naming most of the government schemes programmes by himself.
Seasoned
politicians as well as analysts feel no other serving chief minister
has ever resorted to such kind of exercise earlier. More than one dozen
schemes now have Chandranna tag and the latest one being `Chandranna
Bheema', which is an insurance scheme for workers.
This,
in fact, earlier the TDP regimes had the tradition of naming all
government schemes after its founder N T Rama Rao. With Chandranna’s tag
carrying more weight only two schemes such as NTR Aarogya Seva and NTR
Bharosa remain of the late CM.
Naidu has also
outdid his Tamil Nadu counterpart J. Jayalalithaa, who names all the
welfare measures as Amma schemes. It started with `Chandranna Sankranti
Kanuka' and then `Chandranna Xmas Kanuka', `Chandranna Vyavasaya
Kshetram' followed by `Chandranna Dalita Bata, `Chadranna Girijana
Bata' as well as `Chadranna Runamela'. Even TDP cadre feel this is
becoming too much!
