The DMK president and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi is touring the State even at the age of 92 years for the victory of party candidates, it is left to his daughter Selvi Selvam and youngest son M.K. Tamilarasu to campaign for him in the Tiruvarur Assembly constituency from where Mr. Karunanidhi is seeking re-election.
Mr. Tamilarasu along with his party cadre has been visiting as many households as possible in the constituency soliciting support for his father. He drops in at the dwelling units, big or modest, with folded hands and seeks votes for his father with the inmates with whom he speaks directly. Mr. Tamilarasu distributes pamphlets listing the promises of the DMK and highlights the contents of the party manifesto.
Ms. Selvi is trying to strike a chord with the masses promising that her father, upon assuming office of the Chief Minister for a record sixth time, would implement total prohibition for the benefit of women and the downtrodden. She was campaigning for the past two days in Tiruvarur and on Wednesday she visited Kottarakudi and Velukkudi areas.
Cadre and local DMK leaders were accompanying the wards say they are happy that Mr. Tamilarasu and Ms. Selvi were stepping in for their father and that made electioneering work easy. Vouching for the efficacy of the wards’ campaigning they observe it was like campaigning with the leader himself.
