The DMK MP Kanimozhi has claimed that the DMK has always been in the forefront in safeguarding the interests of the fishermen and it was during the DMK regime that they have felt safe and secure on land and on the high seas.
Kanimozhi was talking with a section of fisher folk at the Pazhayar fishing hamlet in Nagapattinam district on Wednesday and she has said that the DMK president and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had the welfare of the fishermen in his heart and whenever required measured up to their expectations without wasting a moment.
Ms. Kanimozhi has solicited the support of the fishermen and their families for the party’s Sirkali candidate Killai Raveendran. She has pointed out that a study was done on how fishing was being done in other countries and he DMK manifesto has incorporated aspects of such activities for replication in Tamil Nadu.
Kanimozhi has assured the fishing ban period allowance would be hiked to Rs. 5,000 while the diesel subsidy would be substantially hiked and the defunct ice factory at Pazhayar would be revived and she would allot funds from her MP funds to construct an overhead water tank in the hamlet. She will take steps to get job avenues for the youth from the fishermen community.
