Well now for the third time, the country's largest tricolour, which was hoisted amid fanfare in Sanjeevaiah Park on June 2nd has got damaged. On Monday evening, the onlookers were surprised when officials were taking down the flag from the 292 feet high mast.

The senior officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), who are the custodians of the flag and mast, reportedly feigned ignorance saying that they were unaware of the tear. They have been evading some straight questions in this regard.

Senior officials of the Buddha Purnima Project Authority have reportedly said that it is not uncommon for a flag of such width to again tear due to strong winds and added that they have actually placed orders for more such flags. It looks like this is going to be a constant process then.

The flags will be coming from a Mumbai based firm. Sources also state that this is becoming a big burden for HMDA and already the regular mishaps involving this flag is causing ignominy to the state’s reputation! It is about time the concerned Minister takes a proper and permanent measure to it.
