Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi's assassination has always been an emotional issue. So called secular parties always use the tragic incident to whip up emotions against RSS as Nathuram Godse was associated with RSS at that time.
This despite the fact that various investigations and committees absolved RSS of any role in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. During election time opposition parties especially Congress blame RSS of killing Gandhi and BJP of murdering Gandhi to put them on backfoot.
Such comments by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi landed him in trouble. During a rally in Thane in 2014,Rahul Gandhi blamed RSS of killing Gandhi. Supreme Court which heard a plea against Rahul Gandhi, asked Rahul Gandhi to apologize or face trail for his 'RSS killed Gandhi' remarks.
Supreme Court questioned "Why did you make a sweeping statement against the RSS branding everyone associated with the organization in the same brush," The bench observed " You can't make wholesale denunciation of an organization,"
Even as Rahul Gandhi's conusel tried to justify his remarks citing historical facts and Government records, Court asked Rahul to prove his remarks. It asked to apologise or face trial and a bench of Justices Dipak Misra and R F Nariman refused Rahul's request for two-week adjournment and posted the matter for hearing on July 27.
Earlier Rahul Gandhi moved Supreme Court in May 2015 requesting quashing the criminal cases against him for his comments against RSS in Thane rally. Rahul during the rally said "RSS people killed Gandhiji and today their people (BJP) talk of him...They opposed Sardar Patel and Gandhiji,"
