Generally there is impression that BJP always rakes up construction of Ram Mandir issue during Uttar Pradesh elections. Now with UP elections are around the corner, many suspected BJP leaders to rise the pitch for the construction of Ram Mandir. However much to the surprise of all it was SP chief Mualayam Singh Yadav known for his controversial statements on rapes, came with another shocking statement.
When people are forgetting the scars of Mandir-Masjid issue, Mualayam Singh shocked all saying he donot regret the firing of Karsevaks by the security personnel. Speaking at a book launch he said to uphold the “Muslim community’s faith” and preserve the “unity of the country” and added even if 30 had died he would have issued similar orders .
The firing on 30th October 1990 resulted in the death of 18 Karsevaks. Right after that in 1992, massive movement for Ram Mandir by Hindu outfits resulted in the demolition of Babri Masjid. Mulayam's insensitive comments attracted huge criticism from religious leaders. BJP too criticised his statements.
They say Mulayam is rubbing salt on the wounds and added “There is a difference between polarisation and maintaining national unity. What message is he trying to give by raking up this old episode? It seems he wants communal division in the 2017 elections,”
Some say chances of SP coming back to power is very less and with all parties vying for Muslim Yadav votes and competition for Yadav votes is intense,he is trying to attract muslims.
Expects feel that Mulayam's gameplan may misfire as no one in the current generation is interested in what happend two decades back.
