In the Indian political system the party which has the oldest history of presence is the congress. Though it is called the Indian National Congress, over the years its strength as a single party has dwindled and it relies on regional parties to form a government at the center. But still, the party boasts of having a national presence.
To an extent that is true but if we are to look at things practically is congress in a position to hold its grip throughout India. The strength of congress leadership is depleting with each passing day and already some of the key states in India are being dominated by other parties like BJP and regional parties.
Going forward, the future leadership of congress is not looking that strong as there are no dynamic individuals in it. It may have the profile due to its age but congress has been becoming hollow and the day is not far when this perennial image will be wiped out and another party will take over the command.
