2.EC may give order on SP symbol dispute tomorrow.The Election Commission is likely to give tomorrow an interim order on the dispute in the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, with the option of freezing the symbol 'cycle' most likely to be exercised. The three-member EC, headed by Nasim Zaidi, heard both the sides on Friday and reserved its order.

4.PM saddened over WB stampede deaths, sanctions Rs 2 lakh for deceased.Six killed, ten injured in Gangasagar Mela stampede.Six pilgrims, all women, suffocated to death during a mad rush to board a vessel from the crowded jetty on their way home from Gangasagar fair in West Bengal on Sunday after taking the holy dip, a state minister said.
5.BJP moves EC against SP's smartphone scheme.BJP today filed a petition before the Election Commission against the Samajwadi Party's smartphone distribution scheme, saying it amounted to violation of the Model Code of Conduct in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh. In a letter to the chief electoral officer here, senior BJP Vice President, J P S Rathore said SP was continuing with the registration of benefitiaries under its smartphone scheme which was against the mode code.

11.Boat capsizes in Ganga; 21 dead, 20 missing.A festive kite-flying session during Makar Sankranti celebrations ended in tragedy as a boat carrying nearly 80 people capsized in the Ganga in Patna on Saturday evening, killing at least 21 people. More than 30 others were untraceable till late at night even as rescue operations were on.

2.Six civilians killed by roadside bomb: Afghan officials.An Afghan official says that at least six Afghan civilians were killed when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb in eastern Afghanistan.Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor in eastern Nangarhar province, said Sunday that a woman and a child are among those killed in the attack.Two other civilians were wounded by the blast, which took place in Pachir-wa Gam district.
