1.  Sasikala's conviction in wealth case upheld by Supreme Court :  Long-time Jayalalithaaaide Sasikala's conviction in the disproportionate assets case was upheld today by a Supreme Court bench, nixing any possibility of her becoming Tamil Nadu chief minister.
2.  Sasikala can't contest elections for 10 years :  With the Supreme Court upholding conviction of Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case, the four-year prison sentence handed to her has disqualified her from contesting any poll for a period of 10 years, minus jail term already served.
3.  Encounter breaks out in J&K's Bandipora, 3 jawans martyred :  Three soldiers were martyred and an unidentified terrorist was killed in an encounterbetween terrorists and security forces in Kashmir's Bandipora district early on Tuesday morning.

5.  Army, other commandos at NSG won’t be segregated :    Questioning the practice of separate training for commandos from Army and central paramilitary forces, the National Security Guards (NSG) director general SP Singh has ordered scrapping of the practice of holding separate induction courses for trainee commandos to raise a more lethal and "composite" squad of elite soldiers.

8.  Congress releases video to ‘prove BJP men too pay their bosses’ :  Congress released an edited video on Monday to hit back at Karnataka BJPchief B S Yeddyurappa's allegations that chief minister Siddaramaiah sent Rs 1,000 crore, from kickbacks received on various projects (including the controversial steel flyover in Bengaluru), to the Congress brass.
9.  Govt puts brakes on unfair bids for speed governors :  Can it be a coincidence that over half a dozen states invite identical tenders for speed governors, devices that limit speed of a vehicle? After instances of similar bid conditions surfaced across states, the transport ministry has asked governments to refrain from putting restrictive conditions while inviting bids for government vehicles and state transport buses. It said limiting this to a few vendors might result in high prices.
10.  MHA signs up former BJP IT cell members to monitor social media :  The Union home ministry has hired a team of full-time IT consultants to monitor social mediaactivities related to it. SB Navrang, Shishir Tripathi and Ravi Ranjan, all of who have been part of BJP's IT and social media cell, were signed up as consultants earlier this month for handling work relating to analysis of social media activities of MHA.
11.  China should ask Pakistan to address India's concern on terrorism: US think-tank report :  The Trump administration needs to convince China to ask Pakistan to take "good-faith measures" to address India's concerns on cross-border terrorism which is a key trigger of Indo-Pak military escalation, a top American think-tank said in a new report.

1.  US national security adviser Michael Flynn resigns :  President Donald Trump's embattlednational security adviser Michael Flynn resigned late Monday night, following reports that he had misled Vice President Mike Pence and other officials about his contacts with Russia. His departure upends Trump's senior team after less than one month in office.
2.  Indian-origin Nasa scientist detained at US border, phone confiscated :   A US-born Nasa scientist of Indian-origin was detained by US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) authorities on his return to America from a trip to Chile and pressured into unlocking his phone, amid an anxious debate on how far the Trump administration intends to take the "extreme vetting" that it has promised and whether it would be applied to more recent US-citizens of foreign origin.
3.  Islamabad court bans V-Day celebrations, calls it ‘un-Islamic’ :  The Islamabad high court on Monday banned Valentine's Day celebrations across the country after accepting a petition which argued that it was un-Islamic. Valentine's Day has been a subject of verbal sparring between liberals and conservatives in the country.
4.  Tehmina Janjua becomes Pakistan's first woman foreign secretary :  Pakistan on Monday appointed its permanent representative to theUN, Tehmina Janjua, as the country's new foreign secretary.
5.  Taliban-linked group triggers blast outside Lahore assembly, 14 killed :  At least 14 people, including senior police officers, were killed, and 73 injured, in a suicide bomb attack in a highly secure area of Lahore on Monday. Jamaat-ur-Ahrar, a terrorist group linked with Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack.
6.  Another Pakistan Senator says he was denied US visa :  Another Pakistani Senator on Monday said his US visa application was turned down without a valid reason, a day after reports said the SenateDeputy Chairman, belonging to the same Islamic party as the legislator, was denied visa to visit New York.
7.  32 dead in Taiwan bus crash: Fire department :  A Taiwan bus reported to have been taking local tourists home from visiting seasonal cherry blossoms careered off a highway Monday night leaving 32 dead, the national fire agency said.
8.  China plans to launch 1st cargo spacecraft as early as mid-April :  Asian giant China is planning to launch its first Tianzhou-1 cargo resupply spacecraft through a Long March-7 Y2 carrier rocket in April, in what will be a crucial test of key technologies needed for the country's future space station, Xinhua reported on Monday.
9.  Hamas military hardliner elected group's Gaza chief :  Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas elected a hardline member of its armed wing as its new Gazahead on Monday, Hamas officials said.
10.  China blames Washington, Seoul for North Korea missile launch :  China, facing criticism that it is not doing enough to pressure North Korea to drop its nuclear program, said Monday that the root cause of North Korean missile launches is friction with the United States and South Korea.
