With response to a petition filed by Congress, the Supreme Court asked Manohar Parrikar to prove his majority in the House on March 16th. Manoj Parrikar (BJP) who resigned as Union Defence Minister sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Goa at Raj Bhavan in Panaji.
He took the oath along with 9 BJP MLA's. BJP Chief Amit Shah and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also attended the ceremony. Former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar was also present at the ceremony.
Parrikar submitted all the evidence showing the support of 13 MLA's of BJP, 3 MLA's of MGP, 3 of the Goa Forward Party and 2 Independent MLA's. He showed a total strength of 21 MLA's in the 40 member assembly.
A bench headed by Chief Justice JS Kheharmade it clear that an assembly session will be called on March 16th for a floor test after swearing in of the members.The special bench which is constituted by the Apex court is on a Holi Weekend.
