Generally bureaucrats try to maintain close relations with any Chief Minister and stay away from controversies. They feel staying non controversial will help them avoid facing the wrath of the politicians when change of guard happens.

Even after staying away from controversies, officers are facing sleepless nights because of the Chief Minister's dictatorial attitude. This is happening in west Bengal. It is comingout that ever since TMC chief Mamata Bannerjee, lovingly known as Didi took over as the reins as chief Minister of West Bengal, she started giving scares to the officers.

Inside talk is state cadre officers seeking central deputations are frowned upon. IAS and IPS officers are also actively discouraged from putting such requests in writing. What is surprising all is  a dozen such requests have been pending for over a year despite the DoPT (the central government's department of personnel and training) repeatedly asking the state to fill its portion of the central reserve.

Mamata Bannerjee strongly told the bureaucrats that  "Your career begins in the state and will end here."
