Chennai sources have stated that Tamilnadu government's ambitious proposal to expand internet service connectivity has evoked a good response with over 300 applications being received and 170 companies getting the green signal to go ahead. It was stated that under the "Internet to every Household" scheme launched by late Chief Minister J Jayalalitha in 2011.



Accordingly Telecom major Vodafone was selected by the Arasu Cable TV Corporation under the open tender process, and currently, 2,577 subscribers use the leased line internet connectivity. Sources have added that "Orders were issued to 170 applicants for starting the internet service and about 24,750 households are expected to be provided with the internet service under this initiative.

Sources have also stated that Tamilnadu became the first State in the country to receive the Digital Addressable System (DAS) license by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. When this new plan is executed certainly there will be huge response from the people side.
