A Powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 has struck the Pacific Ocean near New Caledonia. This has happened after a series of small magnitude earthquakes. A small Tsunami is already observed and now there has been an Official warning with respect to some major Tsunami waves.

The earthquake with a big magnitude of 7.0 was centered about 250 kilometers (156 miles) northeast of the capital Noumea on the New Caledonian mainland. So far, there have been no official reports regarding the damage caused by the Tsunami waves.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said, "There were some minor sea level fluctuations up to 0.3 meters (118 inches) above and below the normal tide and this would continue for the next few hours." They further added that "More than 400,000 people residing in the nearby islands felt the earthquakes.

Huge damage and casualties are highly possible as this region is already vulnerable to earthquake shaking." It should be noted that just last month a similar earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck the same place.
