After so many efforts at the alliance now Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu, in a surprise statement, announced at a public meeting that he was breaking off the alliance with the BJP in Seemandhra, following resentment among TDP leaders at the BJP giving political non-entities in the seats offered to them. Addressing an election rally in Gajapathinagaram in Vizianagaram district, Mr Naidu said, “Coming under some pressure, the BJP has contested weak candidates, which will not serve the purpose of the poll alliance between both the parties. Opponents will benefit from contesting weak candidates. That’s why we have decided to withdraw from the alliance in Seemandhra. We entered into a poll pact with the BJP to see Narendra Modi as Prime Minister, which will benefit both the country and the state. But if this is the case, it is not going to serve the purpose.” According to APHERALD sources, Mr Naidu spoke to Mr Modi and BJP president Rajnath Singh and expressed his displeasure over the selection of weak candidates. There have been other irritants. A politician like Mr Naidu had to deal with BJP leaders like Prakash Javadekar, BJP spokesperson, and M. Venkaiah Naidu. There is still doubt over Mr Naidu’s proposed joint campaign with Mr Modi in Seemandhra.
