Citing a series of serious violations by Telangana state in contravention of the AP Reorganistaion Act over release of waters to AP, the residuary state has requested the Centre’s immediate intervention and control on the crucial Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar dams on river Krishna.
According to the 11th Schedule of the AP Reorganisation Act, it has been Central government's responsibility when it comes to notifying as and whenever they bring additional responsibilities as per the jurisdiction of KRMB.
However, this may not be easy for the Centre to take over full control of the operations of thee two reservoirs. After the process of bifurcation, there was an unofficial arrangement worked out by KRMB, AP and TS.
According to that, the Srisailam dam operations would be handled by Andhra Pradesh government and Nagarjunasagar will be completely under TS control. Hence AP cannot be expecting centre help in this regard too.
