Kurnool, the capital of former Andhra state, maintains to receive a raw deal even after the division of Andhra Pradesh. Numerous projects declared for Kurnool are still to start. The former UPA-2 government had approved a mega railway project for Kurnool district

A year has gone since the central government cleared the project and still there are no signals of it starting. Foundation stone was placed for a `coach mid-life rehabilitation workshop' between Panchalingala and E Thandrapadu. The Kurnool district administration has granted finances for land acquisition. But the work progress on at a snail's pace.

The suggested project will assist people in neighboring Mahbubnagar district of Telangana state also. When concluded, it will supply work to nearly 3,000 people. Credit to excessive delay, the project cost has increased to Rs 281 crore from the actual estimate of Rs 110 crore.

This is not the just project that has remained on paper. Many projects have been pending for long. In fact, the only place in Rayalaseema that has been getting the government's attention is Tirupati, said local businessman K Aravind.
